Every year, parents have two questions they always ask.
”How do I answer my kids when they ask about those outside their car windows? And what can I do when they want to help?”
Answering these, organizations frequently recommend hygiene bags. They have their place, as they typically include items that the unhomed need (though seldom enough chocolate). But for other parents, they often want to say more. Something more from the heart.
In the summer of 2023, a former Navy homeless veteran was thinking about this problem, and the hug jar was born!
With just a few pieces of colored paper (or even Post-Its), a glue stick, and a small jar from any hobby store or grocery, a family or charity can give the unhomed a gift that he or she may keep forever — especially when they include a personal note.
Please help yourself to the easy instructions below. It’s our wish that this idea travels around the world, along with it‘s unique message of love. If you get a chance, also email us your photos and stories, and you just may see them here!
